25 YEARS LATER, THE STORY ISN’T OVER

On September 11, 2001, John Crittenden was inside the South Tower of the World Trade Center when America came under attack.

He escaped the building, but he did not escape September 11.

For nearly a quarter-century, Crittenden has lived with the psychological consequences of that morning and the symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder.

“Forgetting 9/11: The John Crittenden Story” tells his remarkable first-person story while examining a part of the September 11 legacy that receives far less attention: what happens to survivors after survival?

The expanded 25th anniversary presentation includes updated information about Crittenden’s journey, PTSD and trauma, the World Trade Center Health Program, and an expert roundtable examining what decades of research and clinical experience have taught us about post-traumatic stress.

“NEVER FORGET” MEANS SOMETHING DIFFERENT WHEN YOU CAN’T FORGET

For 25 years, “Never Forget” has defined America’s remembrance of September 11.

But for survivors living with PTSD, forgetting can mean something very different.

Traumatic memories can return involuntarily through flashbacks, nightmares, anxiety and other symptoms that can make an event from decades ago feel as though it is happening again.

For Crittenden and countless others affected by September 11, the anniversary is therefore about more than remembering history.

It is also about understanding its continuing human consequences.

By combining one survivor’s intensely personal experience with expert perspectives on trauma, treatment and recovery, “Forgetting 9/11” seeks to help audiences better understand PTSD while giving a voice to those who survived September 11 but continue to carry it with them.

AN EMMY® AWARD-WINNING STORY

“Forgetting 9/11: The John Crittenden Story” received a New York Emmy® Award for Outstanding Human-Interest Programming and has also received multiple Telly Awards recognizing its storytelling, advocacy, social impact, archival footage and editing.

The documentary is directed and produced by Brian J. McCourt, CEO of Able Channel.
